At 7am we sat down on the patio to be served a delicious breakfast by our host Russell. He managed to even outdo Graham the Chef at Forsayth. As well as the muesli, tub of yoghurt, orange juice, tea, hot chocolate and toast, there was a magnificent platter of tropical fruit.
There were two servings of 15 different fruits on that plate. A real work of art that took us half an hour to demolish and several hours to digest.
Blueberries Grapes Passionfruit
Honeydew Watermelon Custard Apple (from own tree)
Pineapple Papaya Sweet Potato fruit
Strawberry Starfruit Black sapote (very ripe)
Sugar banana Kiwifruit Dragonfruit
This is a special treat for overseas visitors that we were lucky enough to receive.
Next to the patio is a little spa for us to use in the hot weather.
From the patio we spied a large hill which we saw on the way past in the train. We found it was called Castle Hill and decided to climb it to burn off the breakfast.
We climbed up over a thousand steps on the Goat Track (official name), being overtaken by quite a few people on the way.
One man coming down said "I hope I can still do what you are doing when I get to your age". At the summit we found 3 or 4 cars that had brought people up the road, but many more who had walked, run, pushed strollers or cycled to the 280 meter top. The views in all directions were fantastic on such a clear day and we took many photos. We could even see the red roof of "our" house on 40xzoom.
There was a track around the cordoned-off tower at the top, which we walked around.
We walked back down the road and found more mums pushing babies up the hill. Near the bottom we found a sign for the "King of the Castle" race to be held next Sunday June 23. There is plenty to challenge the runners up here. Last week was the Mareeba to Chillagoe Wheelbarrow Race. It took an hour to get back to the house and when we had recovered we went to the big "i" and booked a trip to Magnetic Island, which we had seen from the summit.
Looked nicer than 3 hours each way out to the reef. We walked out to the Marina where our Sealink ferry would leave from tomorrow and on the way we noticed a town mascot that might scare the poms.
The aquarium was nearby, and put that down for Wednesday, possibly. We also saw a couple of Fantasea catamarans the same as our Palm Beach ones.
We needed to find the station again to plan our departure so we followed the local map. When we got to the station we realised why we had trouble on our arrival. The station had been moved a kilometer away from the centre of the town ten years ago and Google Maps had not been adjusted. We will never trust them again. They are not really interested in railways. Even the Booking.com map had the same error because they use Google.
